Cell Build · Data Cloud recovery

Data Cloud live for AAA Insurance after a stalled SI

AAA Insurance

Recent · Data Cloud recovery after failed SI

AAA Insurance needed Data Cloud that marketing could actually use. Cell Build finished identity and Marketing Cloud activation after a stalled SI, then left an ops model that could keep profiles trusted in real journeys.

Situation

Where the work sat

Salesforce Data Cloud showed up on the AAA Insurance roadmap with familiar enterprise energy: multi-wave programs, identity workshops, ingestion everything, and steering-committee dashboards that looked healthy. Marketing still could not trust a segment in a real Marketing Cloud send.

That gap (license live, activation unfinished) is where RHG’s Cell Build work starts. The AAA Insurance engagement is the named recovery story. The same Cell pattern sits beside long-running Marketing Cloud proof elsewhere on this site (Uber since 2015, Experian B2B and B2C since 2016, IHOP multi-BU ops), so buyers can see build and ops as one practice, not two vendors.

What was broken

Why it was hard

Large SI programs often deliver architecture decks and incomplete activation. Identity rules stay “phase two.” Marketing Cloud Connect is a footnote. Consumption climbs while useful segments do not. Membership, policy, and service audiences stay fragmented while marketers export around the CDP.

The political trap is funding another foundation wave. The operational trap is staffing Data Cloud as a side quest disconnected from the people who run journeys and email.

What the Cell did

How we approached it

Cell Build put certified Data Cloud specialists on the critical path for AAA Insurance: identity resolution marketers can trust, activation into Marketing Cloud, and the operating model so the work does not die after go-live. Done means a journey can fire on a trusted profile, not that an architect signed a diagram.

Activation targets stayed concrete for an insurance and membership brand: member and policyholder lifecycle audiences, renewal and retention journey entry, service and claims-adjacent messaging that needs accurate household or member keys, and preference-aware marketing paths that Marketing Cloud can actually send. We salvaged what worked, killed curiosity ingestion that burned credits without outcome, and finished a short list of use cases marketing could feel.

Week to week

How it ran

Inventory of what was actually live. One or two activation outcomes as the proof window. Weekly identity exception handling with a named owner. Credit spend tied to active use cases. A handoff into Cell Ops so activation health sits beside SFMC execution instead of becoming a second vendor relationship.

That same Cell already knows how continuous SFMC ops look at Uber and Experian scale, so the AAA Insurance handoff is not a cold start into a body shop that never ran journeys.

Outcome

What stuck

Data Cloud implemented for real AAA Insurance activation, not shelfware. Marketing Cloud connected to usable customer profiles. Same Cell available to operate what it built. The deck line stands: Data Cloud live after failed Big 4 implementations, with AAA Insurance as the named recovery case.

Why it still matters

What buyers should take

Buyers should stop equating “Data Cloud project” with “marketing can segment.” Ask for activation proof in ninety days, a named client pattern like AAA Insurance, and an ops home after go-live. That is the Cell Build standard.
